A Differential Approach to the Treatment of Sexually Transmitted Diseases of Nongonococcal Etiology
Abstract
The article addresses improvement of treatment and prevention of Reiter’s disease in patients with sexually transmitted diseases of nongonococcal etiology through differential bacteriological investigation and identification of the etiological factor. Eleven patients with Reiter’s disease were examined using bacteriological and immunofluorescence methods, including detection of antibodies to C. trachomatis; rheumatological consultation was mandatory. Antibacterial combinations were selected according to the detected infectious agents and supplemented with anti-inflammatory and immunomodulating therapy. Clinical recovery was observed in 8 patients (72.7%), supporting the value of an etiopathogenetic approach for improving treatment outcomes and reducing exacerbations, particularly in the chronic recurrent form.Downloads
