Abstract

The article examines somatopsychic disturbances in patients with venereal infections and inflammatory diseases of the genital organs. Clinical and psychopathological examination of 48 patients revealed changes in 30; asthenic, asthenic-depressive, anxiety-depressive, anxiety-phobic, agrypnic, and hypochondriacal syndromes were described. Mental disorders developed predominantly as psychogenic reactions associated with the personal significance of the disease, fear of venereal infection, and unfavorable relationships with a sexual partner. Men demonstrated emotional instability, fatigue, sleep disturbances, autonomic manifestations, and sexual disorders, whereas women presented psychogenic cystalgia; these disturbances could contribute to maladjustment in marital relationships.
