Use of RPHA in the Laboratory Diagnosis of Syphilis in Ukraine
Abstract
The article examines the use of the passive hemagglutination reaction (PHAR) for laboratory diagnosis of syphilis in Ukraine and the need to define its regulatory status. Serum samples from 73 patients were tested with the DS-U-PHAR Anti-Lewis system, alongside KSR, RIF, and RIT serological studies. Syphilis was diagnosed in 25 patients, and PHAR results were positive in all of them. However, in some cases positive PHAR findings did not correspond to other serological reactions or clinical and medical-history data. The authors consider PHAR justified for use, while emphasizing professional interpretation, legal regulation, and strengthened national quality-control systems.Downloads
