Abstract

A comparative study of the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the microbiocenosis of inflammatory lesions and clinically healthy skin was conducted in 25 patients with acne. In lesions, microorganisms were predominantly isolated as monocultures, mainly coagulase-negative staphylococci; the mean microbial load was 5.27±2.29 lg CFU/ml. Microbial associations were more frequently detected in control skin, where the mean microbial load was lower, at 3.19±1.79 lg CFU/cm². Increased microbial colonization of lesions and a reduced number of associations contributing to colonization resistance may represent one of the factors involved in inflammation in acne.
